According to the Transport Scotland website the project is currently in the construction tender process, ahead of construction starting in 2011. Final submissions for tenders will be late in 2010, with the contract awarded in the spring of 2011. The bridge is due to be completed in 2016.
Notable Dates
September 2011 – First phase of work affecting motorists begin as long-term road works are put in place on M90 in Fife to allow construction of gantries for average speed cameras.
May 2011 – Awarding of contracts to subcontractors begin including the installation of an intelligent transport system with average speed cameras for the duration of the construction phase and M9 junction upgrade
March 2011 – Forth Crossing Constructors awarded tender to build Forth Replacement Crossing at estimated £1.5billion.
October 2010 – Archaeological excavations started by Headland Archaeology including publication of “Neolithic Farm find”
26th February, 2010 – Closing date for submissions regarding the future use of the existing Forth Road Bridge.
26th January, 2010 – Closing date for objections to be lodged against the Forth Crossing Bill.
16th November, 2009 – Forth Crossing Bill presented to the Scottish Parliament. Convener of the bill is Jackson Carlaw MSP, his deputy Hugh O’Donnell MSP and the two other members of the committee are Joe Fitzpatrick and David Stewart.
