Bridge facts
The new bridge will be 2.7km long cable-stayed bridge composed of three towers and will span from west end of South Queensferry above Inchgarvie house across to Ferrytoll in Fife very close to where the existing bridge currently lands. An overview map supplied by Transport Scotland is also available.
Companies involved
The project is being headed up by two principal consultants Jacobs and Arup. These two companies are further supported by consultants from Flint & Neill, Dissing & Weitling and EC Harris.
Two consortia are currently tendering for the right to build the Forth replacement crossing. The first is called Forth Crossing Constructors and is composed of Morrison Construction, Hochtief, American Bridge and ACS.
The second is known as Forthspan and includes Balfour Beatty, Morgan EST, BAM Nuttall and MT Hojgaard. It originally also included Vinci construction – the worlds largest bridge builder – but they pulled out at the end of 2010, being replaced by MT Hojgaard.
Architecture

Should have been a tunnel, bridge is being built because you can see a bridge and where the money is being spent

A bridge is a fabulous monument, and to have three such monuments, that exhibit a timeline of technological and engineering advancement, will be stunning. If the money has to be spent, then we might as well also celebrate the achievements of our creative spirit with something splendid. The magnificence of Scotland warrants the addition of what will be another iconic structure to be proud of.

its all good and well spending all this money on a new bridge, but all the money will be going abroad, the 3 engineering teams are foreign and all the steel work is coming from abroad. no wonder the UK is in a crisis when we have opportunities like this to keep the work within the UK but we go and give the contracts to other countries. I’m just about to finish a HND in civil engineering and there should be plenty work for me here, instead its been given away and not creating the jobs that it should be bringing into Scotland.

The reason the contracts went to foreign companies instead of keeping the work here, is due to Procurement law of the European Union. One of the many EU membership downsides! I wont go into details of the restrictive legislation here as there is plenty of info online.
